Thanks for the positive feedback we received about the first issue of simplicity. I was told recently by a friend that in literature "birds" represent ideas, and "fish" represent the soul. That sounds about right to us. I think my friend said it was a Douglas Coupland quote? It maybe...

The latest issue of MAC + DESIGN magazine is available now in Shangha. This is the best issue yet, featuring some really fantastic content spread throughout a luscious layout by Yin Xiao Wei.

Featuring a crazy interview with BUNCH [see illustrations above] the innovative web team based in London, Zagreib and Singapore, and some amazing graphics from Japan's VIVA - GRAPHICS See illustrations above], MAC + DESIGN is a must buy item for all you aspiring designers in Shanghai. Birds and Fish develop content for MAC + DESIGN at both our China and Australia offices.

As usual we are very excited to be able to work on this project as content developers and production team responsible for bringing the magazine to press. The September issue of Melbourne - based design and digital culture magazine DESKTOP Issue 197 featured a story by Ian McArthur from the Byron office of Birds and Fish. In the context of the "Education" issue, the article titled GLOBAL WEAVE furthers the arguement for research and development into collaborative learning and it's associated technolgies and pedagogies. It discusses the immense benefits to design students and the industry more broadly of projects like COLLABOR8©.

This is the second Birds and Fish related story to feature in DESKTOP in 2004.

Look for Desktop: Magazine if you are in Australia or Singapore. It's published by Niche Media. Thanks to Gillian and the team!

COLLABOR8© is a project for design students. As a learning tool and methodology it has considerable potential for design colleges and universities worldwide. Our intent is to foster collaborative projects between design education programs using basic web technologies and deep learning approaches. We maintain that through this simple yet multi faceted approach deeper understanding s between cultures and individuals can evolve.

The project has already brought together Chinese and Australian design students together in 2 collaborative projects, the most recent being the "street" project which visually contrasts street culture in Shanghai and Byron Bay. :) That's a big contrast!

The project was facilitated by designer/educationalists: Ian McArthur, Anni Morrad, Sabina Ernst and Martin O'Donnell, along with significant input and assistance by Australian design luminary Harry Williamson...
