November | December 2006
Welcome to the second edition of simplicity3. The past few months have seen some great developments at both our offices. We have expanded our range of services to offer exhibition design ( see story below) in addition to our existing focus on print and web design. In September Creative Director Ian McArthur arrived in Shanghai to assemble an exhibition of UNSW student work at the International Student Exhibition of the Shanghai Biennale " HYPER DESIGN. This gave us the opportunity to plan for the next expansion stage of the group and we made the most of it. Anyway, the theme of this newsletter shifts focus from Sydney to Shanghai ...so we say "WE HEART SHANGHAI!"

Well this is what we've been up to recently...
Shanghai Biennale 2006 | HYPER DESIGN >
This year's Shanghai Biennale was an impressive event by anyone's standards and the opportunity to be a part of it was a thrill. Creative Director Ian McArthur was appointed to the judging panel for the International Student Design Exhibition. The theme of this year's even was HYPER DESIGN which offered participating artists and designers a stimulating opportunity to comment on the state of play within design practice today.
"The standard of the work was amazing! Ian said. "Many of the pieces on display from the China coming out of Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing are quite simply on the cutting edge of interactive media and design thinking..." The image above is part of a collective work researching, examining and commenting upon the aethetics of Chinese families and the objects in their households. Judging the 180 odd works was a mammoth task and the panel had a lot on their hands to select the best pieces for awards.
